      The black arrows in this image indicate the distinctive "footprint" left by a manatee as it
         travels below the surface of the water.  Often these "footprints" are the only indication that
         a manatee is present.

  A manatee takes a breath at the surface on the quiet morning of March 3, 2008.     The manatee's whole body is visible just below the surface of the water.  It is estimated to be 8-9 ft. long.
